Ernest Hemingway said that "If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast."

We'd like to expand what Hemingway said a little bit more.

How can Glossika Help?

We all have experience learning languages in a classroom. The "classroom way" of teaching helps you with recognizing and understanding the text and grammar, but the time in a classroom just isn't enough practice to learn how to speak well. This is why traditionally universities had language labs where you would go for several hours every week to practice listening to your target language. Glossika is the modern day equivalent of a language lab that is tailored specifically for your level.

You might have immigrant parents and extended family who speaks a language that is not normally taught in schools, such as Armenian or Persian or Korean or Taiwanese. You may wish to learn your heritage language in order to keep your family ties strong. There's no better place than Glossika to get a lot of practice before you go engage with family in conversation.

We understand the pain and frustration of learning a language that has almost no resources. Here's a fun fact:

Did you know that the founder of Glossika, Michael Campbell, has gone out of his way to give himself the harshest learning environment for acquiring a language, not just for the experience, but to make sure it can be done. He has learned aborigine languages in the mountains of Taiwan before there were materials to learn them. Campbell later sat for a government-approved spoken proficiency test for one of these languages.
Today, our founder still speaks Thao (ISO code: SSF), having learned it from a handful of monolingual elders who have since passed away. The language no longer has any native speakers left. So our founder is now experiencing what it is like to keep a language alive when there is nobody else to talk to! Michael has gone on to learn several more of the languages spoken in the mountains of Taiwan, but it is much easier now with a growing wealth of materials. Someday we may add these languages to Glossika once approved.

We've used these experiences to help make Glossika a great place to overcome the kinds of barriers you may experience to acquiring listening comprehension and fluency.

How does that work? We personalize your learning content by giving you "n+1". This means that we evaluate your current level and always give you something a little bit harder for you to practice. Take English for example, if you've already mastered a sentence structure like "I ate dinner yesterday", next time you'll probably get additional adjuncts in the sentences such as "I ate dinner with my classmates yesterday" (with a person) or "I ate dinner at a Thai restaurant yesterday" (location). Not only do you get variations in grammar, but having the ability to use adjuncts like these brings your speaking ability to life.

Questions You might Have

You can find more frequently asked questions on the Glossika Premium Student page, but below is the two top questions that we get asked quite often:

1- How to apply for the Glossika student plan?

Make sure that you log in to your Glossika account first. Enter your student email address to verify your student status, and you'll receive your unique student discount code once verified. The discount code will be sent to your student email address.

You can use your student discount code to your personal account, and you don't need to create another student account just for the student plan.

If your email sometime doesn't match the ones we verify, you can send any kinds of documents for us to do manually check (for example, your student ID card, your enrollment document, etc.). We usually take less than 24 hours to verify student status.

2- When do I need to verify my student status again?

If you decide to go for the monthly plan, your monthly fee will be $13.50 per month for six consecutive months. And when it's time to renew for the seventh month, we'll remind you to verify your student status again. If you fail to verify it, your seventh month of the monthly subscription will be adjusted to the regular price point.

If you go for the annual plan, you'll only need to verify your student status when it's time to renew your annual plan. We'll remind you in advance as well. You can cancel or re-subscribe to your Glossika subscription at any time. And we keep your learning progress so you can resume your training anytime.
